Volunteering at Common Good City Farm

LA.IDEA joined Architects in The City, a Washington Architectural Foundation program that provides one day service opportunities for AIA|DC members and the general public. Our committee hosted a volunteering session on Sunday, August 18th at Common Good City Farm.

We were glad to be part of such an energetic group of volunteers maintaining the city garden beds of basil, pepper, onions, tomatoes, and many more vegetables!

Common Good City Farm (CGCF) is a non-profit urban farm and education center located in LeDroit Park, in Washington DC. The farm engages the community in urban sustainable agriculture practices, in a place where members can source fresh food and gain exposure to concepts and skills to lead healthy lives. Their mission is to create a vibrant, informed, and well-nourished community through urban farming, and they have programs for kids and adults alike.

Since January 2007, CGCF has provided over 10 tons of fresh produce to the community, engaged over 2,700 adults and 4,500 young people in educational programs, and hosted over 3,000 volunteers.

We would like to thank everyone who came to volunteer along our side, and especially Tracy Knapp, the farm manager who kindly instructed our way towards the weeding and cleaning, while making it a fun activity and sharing information about the amazing work the farm does.
